Hi,
Just got my 07 Varadero 125 and don't have the owners manual for it and had a quick question about the headlights. As I understand, you don't have the option of turning the lights off. When the key is turned they are always on. When I have the lights dipped, only the two tiny lights beside the headlamps are on not the two main ones. When I turn on full beams, the two main lights come on. I am guessing that this is not correct and that the two main headlamps should always be on whether dipped or full? Do I probably just need to replace the bulbs? Is this easy? I am new to owning a bike or any vehicle at all.

Oh I know that the lights are always meant to be on but was wondering when on dipped lights should the two center main lamps come on or only on full beams and if they are meant to come on should replacing the bulbs fix it.

apologies if I again misunderstand...the 125 Vara as I have it, Has separate 3 lamps, 1 as a park lamp (3) and the 2 mains(4) for High and dipped beam.. The 2 mains contain both the filaments for High and dip beams each.... so Both will be in for main and dipped...... The filaments are place slightly different within the lamp and has different wattages..... this will throw a wide near beam on dip and a narrower, further and stronger beam on high (main)... Have you driven at night?  are the performing correct ??

Unless there's a loose connection, the bulbs have blown.

I'm not sure what diagram that is for, but I'm pretty certain it isn't the Vara 125, it has 2 sidelights outboard of the main bulbs, not one central as that shows, but you are correct, the bulbs are dual filament, a nice expensive touch which I've always been a little smug about as some 600 Sports Bikes only get single filament bulbs.

Basically, the main beam filament has blown, hence why they aren't on, but the main beam filament is still working.

You need to replace them asap given how quickly the night comes in.

The diagram above is for the new version. The old version pre 2007 had 2 sidelights and amber indicators. The new version only has one in the centre. Plus it has all clear indicators.

Fair enough, never had to look at a diagram for the new ones :-)

The main bulbs look the same, you just push them inwards away from the front of the bike, then twist, then they come out.

If it is the bulbs that have gone, (Or just one, it can affect the other one.) then its a pretty easy job to replace them.
