2005 1000va5..the tickover is approx 1500rpm when warm. not down to lever on left bar, i checked..do i use the adjuster on right hand side to reduce tickover ? mine seems seized/tight & i dont wanna snap anything. also i cant find right gear (1st or 2nd) on very tight corners. is this because of the gearing on the vara (only had it 4 wks ! )...also road pilot 3 trail tyres ?200 a pair at m&p. anyone got/tried these ? see u @ vim WALES.

Here's my 2 pence worth

I would use the adjuster on the right hand side just under the tank. As for stiff give it a bit of wd40. Mine has what I can only describe as a child proof top you have to push in to make it turn.

As for not finding gear. Is your chain too tight ?

Sorry don't know about the tyres.  I use anakee 2 and am very happy

Pilot road 3's = the dogs danglies.

Are you trying to select the mid corner or are you in the corretc gear by the time you turn in.

I have been known to arse it up completely if I misjudge a corner or meet an unexpected car on a hairpin and need to change down mid corner (yes there is video, no we won't be looking at it at VIM15  >:( )
I wonder what happen if I click on this - Ooops

The Prodded Dog

Use first on tight corners. The Vara will rev quite high although it may sound and feel strange at first.
Better to have drive than it bogging down.
Pilot Road gutters work well, I saw it first hand and still brings a smile to my face SB.

I can still do all the things I could when I was 21, but now it is with less teeth.

There will be a projector at Vim.  You have just put some ideas in my head (unless !)

My initials are GS, but I ride a Varadero.

thanks for replies. 1st gear around most tight corners is new to me,having a blackbird, but i'll try it & try to get used to the high revs. idle adjustment childlock caught me out ! but it still needs wd40. will let it soak 1st. pilot 3 trail. bought a pair. time will tell if they're as good as pilot road 3. s'posed to be ideal for middle weight trail bikes.i assume the vara falls into that category? but havent seen any write-ups with them on a vara1000. cant wait for VIM routes !!!!! seemed to be a lot of cul-de-sacs last time..!!!

Had mine running at 1000rpm at idle but when giving a rev to change down sometimes it would fart and cut out so now running it at 1250rpm at idle and its fine. Could not adjust my idle knob so use a Phillips screwdriver in the  middle of adjuster to adjust.
