Aftermarket exhaust upgrade

Hi all I got my self a 57 plate baby vara not long bought it and absolutely love it ! Looking at upgrading the exhaust not sure what's best and if I should get a end can or whole system or not even bother ?
And suggestions ?

If you're on L-Plates, the Varadero makes the maxmium 14.6bhp. Any improvements you get from the exhaust will move you over that limit, essentially meaning you're not licensed to ride it. If you rode without the baffles in, a copper will end up pulling you over as well because of the noise.

Unless you're getting a 2nd hand can, you're looking at ?250 plus, & probably the same again for stainless steel pipework.

Devil do an exhaust for the Varadero & there are plenty of 'universal' exhausts. I've also seen a generic end can fitted using a piece of pipe to enlarge to diameter to fit.

There is a case for the stainless pipes as Honda like to use galvanised mild steel which will eventually start to corrode.

This question pops up a lot, & the answer is simply that it's best to accept the bike for what it is; a 125. Personally I've spent the money making my Vara more practical.

Cheers mate a bit disappointing although I wasnt defiantly looking at getting a new exhaust but it's a shame the option isn't there. Just wanted the bike to sound as big as it looks, haha. What upgrades/ add-ones you got ? I got my top box in Post (52L haha) and I'm looking at a bigger screen and heated grips.

Yeah, the problem is the Vara is a niche bike, so parts for it are very expensive. Any bike that uses a narrower exhaust (I think 54mm, but I'm not certain), could in theory fit the Vara, I guess a CBR125 might be a good place to look if you are serious about it. The universal exhausts do come with adaptors, have a flick around eBay for universal motorcycle exhausts, although they're cruiser styles.

I do very high mileage & I don't have a car so I've fitted pannier racks, a big top box, Ermax belly pan, Datatool heated grips (I will never buy Oxford's again), tall screen, 12v accessory socket, a fender extender & I've DIY'ed a rear hugger. Also invested in a set of handlebar muffs for winter.

The panniers & racks cost about what an exhaust would've cost & I've got much more use out of them than I would from a louder exhaust but I knew what I wanted the bike to be.

I was looking at the Venom system from motad for my 125, has anybody here got or come across that system before?

I had Venoms on my old Triumph Tiger 900. They have two removeable baffles. One is a cone that is accessed from the front where the header is inserted and the other at the rear.
Decent quality kit.

I bought a dominator exhaust from ebay and it should be here tomorrow. Was ?150 delivered. Search for varadero dominator on ebay. Same search on YouTube and you'll get some videos of the noise it produces...

I have managed to buy some nice used Stainless and Titanium ones off eBay for as little as a fiver

Hey, I am very interested in this as a normal aftermarket can is out of my price range. A couple of questions though, where can you to buy the link pipe separately (I cannot seem to find it) and how much roughly is it? Also how are you finding cans so cheap and how are you mounting them?

I got mine from Motad of Walsall http://www.motad.co.uk/ but it's not currently listed in their catalogue - so give them a ring and ask.

I originally intended to buy a complete stainless system from them, but noticed that they designed theirs with the same restrictors as the original spec, so didn't bother.


Motad stainless link pipe with a ?14 Micron end can off eBay.


Stainless bolt to hold the 'P' clamp, fits original threaded hole.

The Motad design doesn't use the carbon sealing collar at the collector end, so its easy to switch back to the factory system for MOT's if you decide to buy a non road-legal can.

I had to fit 2 'db Killers' (one each end) to keep the noise down a bit because one just wasn't enough.

As far as I can tell, there is no discernible loss (or gain) of power with this setup, it just sounds nicer (less like a 125 screamer) at higher revs.

I also tried it with a brand new no-name stainless end can (?5 off eBay) and a Yoshimura Titanium (?25 off Gumtree - so suspected copy) but I prefer the Motad because it was easier to fit the db Killers.

I brought a 2002 with 5000 on the clock and mint but the exhaust lets it down as its rusting there is a motad set on ebay pipes and can for ?215 pull the old off flog on ebay for ?100 for the two parts and the new will last for years plus only cost you ?115. that said i need a hugger but they are hard to find would love to find one that mods to fit easy
