Sorry but kinda related to touring

Downloaded a new version of ITunes and ended up with all my music duplicated

In show duplicated - I have 7899 extra files....any help appreciated

Did that when my daughter downloaded iTunes to the PC her and my missus uses (never let them near mine!). We use BT's Digital Vault so I just deleted them and restored from backup.

Also, I use Norton GoBack you can just flip right back to where you started.

This is really helpfull to you I know    There is a lesson to be had here though, backup!

Sorry about being obtuse.  When this app installs it does look at your playlist and converts it to MP3 (even you WMA's) so it sounds like it's done the same here.  Unless you are happy with scripting you may just opt for the long (but safe) method of deleting the duplicates.

I hate IT, been in the business for 20 years. when I started programers had to work to keep code within memory limits, now you just have to "buy more memory" the problem is that debuging is not nearly as thorough these days.

Have you managed to actually duplicate the physical files or is it just that iTunes thinks you've duplicated them?

Hi Mark....the number of Gb's has increased...so i think I have actually duplcated them. I am therefore frightened to sync the iPod and blow my capacity

It almost looks like the iTunes library and My Music have the sma enumber of actual Mp3 files

Bugger. Rather too many than too few I guess. You can manually delete the duplicated files in iTunes or search on google and pay a few dollars for a shareware application that will delete the real duplicates.

In google "deduplicate itunes" comes up with lots of advice...

Ta will have a look tonight. The manual option would take me weeks......7000+ duplicates, including several Nick Caves and Tom Waits...very dark

Now this is wierd

iTunes seems to have created a copy of all the music files...so I look under

My Music

Open - AC/DC

Open Album  - If you wnat Blood yove got it

and all the trackes are actually duplicated..the duplicate has a 2 afterwards

eg: Track 1 Riff Raff, Track 1 Riff Raff 2
