George, in his day, was one of the first 'celebrity' footballers.

He didn't choose the media hype, he was a sportsman, and a good one.
It was this media hype that ruined him . . . back then he didn't know how to handle it.

He was still a young man.

Unfortunately alcohol was his way of dealing !!

But when you watch clips of George, drippling a ball from one end of a field to the other, and then scoring, I just don't see any of today's footballers even come close.

If it ain't broke . . Don't fix it !!!

Its an interesting debate this.......

Should people who smoke be denied treatment for lung cancer
Should ''big boned'' lard arse people be denied a triple bypass
Should rampant homosexuals be denied treatment for AIDS related diseases
Should people who ride motorcycles be denied A&E help as they brought upon themselves

Makes you think........

I don't think it's him being an alcoholic that bothered anyone. I think its that he drank to excess, was ill and given a second chance. Then he messed that up too.

If you rode your bike, was given A&E treatment and told "Mr Fox, if you get on a bike again, it will kill you."

You wouldn't get on your bike again.

If you did, well then yes, you'd deserve what you got. Whether you were the best biker ever or not.

(Don't mean YOU personally, Silver. Just exapmle, ya know.)

I'm big boned or is it under tall ?. Any way its the genetics of my race so skitting me about my size is there for being racist. And that is very un PC. So denying me of medical treatment because of my race is against my human rights.
So there!!!!!!!
As for being a biker in A&E well..................... My tax pays for...................... rant........................ rant..............................rant.................. rant.  :D

I am absolutely fascinated in that statement that it's genetics that dictates that you are 'bigger than the Average'....
could you try an expand on that...
I'm 5'8" and weight 17 stone so i would be in that category but i never try and pawn that down to genetics....

Footballer or not, the man was given a second chance and there was no reason for him not to take it.  He chose to drink.  I'm sure he was offered help to stop drinking but he obviously didn't want it so I have no sympathy whatsoever.  Only with his family.  Someone else could have had that second chance and made the most of it. :tickedoff:

A lot of the paths we take in life are chosen within the conflicting boundaries of "Responsibility" & "Freedom of Choice".

As bikers we tend to err towards freedom of choice. How we dress, the way we ride and the bike we ride determines how far we push the limits.

George pushed the limits a bit more than most.
I wonder what happen if I click on this - Ooops

Nice to see we feel the same way Em  O0

Look at people in general. Do you have a large nose because you sniff too much or big ears because you listen too much . People developed according to their environment and the needs of that environment, If you lived were people over 6' were eaten by the 6' people eater then people who are under 6' will thrive. If you live in an area that requires the body to store body fuel for longer then the chubby person will thrive. Also you have selection by culture, that is to say when a culture is not thriving then chubbiness is seen being affluent , on the reverse side when a society is thriving being a pipe cleaner is seen as the desired shape.
And so the desired genetics that make the person are then selected for that culture or race.

Then you go to McDonalds.

Did George pay much income tax and National Insurance?
Was the Op an NHS or Private one?
I expect he contributed more than he took out on his salary.... so I expect he paid for it one way or another.

....and whilst we have drifted into this subject....the whole fekin NHS system...(is there a system?).... needs looking at. I know a Guy who has been in full time employment for over 30 years, always paying tax and insurance through the PAYE scheme who has never been in hospital in all that time.....now needs (really needs) surgery to live a normal life but has been told there is an 18 month waiting list....unless he has ?5,000 to pay for it ....in which case he can go in on Wednesday....
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path..... and leave a trail...!

.....and remember, "Light travels faster than the speed of sound, which is why some people appear bright until they speak"

sorry i put the fucking post on now , and all because i was wishing a fellow born and bred around the corner in ?east belfast , who went to the same school and was glad to see the desk inscribed with his name and his pictures on the wall ,

was he the first person to get a transplant (of any kind) and revert back to his old ways ??? Maybe George you should have blew up a few tube trains or the odd bus or even done in a few school kids and ?a couple of OAPs then you would have been guarenteed preferential treatment and had your whole family shipped in to live a life of luxury at everyone elses expense .

note to moderator PLEASE CLOSE THIS POST ? ?

well  then Gingerchin i'm sure you are delighted to see Bestie making a bit of a recovery...Apparently he has woken up and is now breathing on his own.. O0 O0
I don't think anyone was wishing the worst on him, But it is just frustrating and annoying to see a man with so much talent and skill be given a second chance and waste it when he could have used his life as an example to the young "besties" of today of what not to do and tried to use his failures for good...
I think that alot have things have changed since the 70's but the Media pressure on todays superstars in soccer and elsewhere is too much for normal people to cope with..
