XL1000V4 80k mile service (burned connector found)
« on: March 28, 2020, 05:25:48 PM »
Bike has been running ok apart from being harder to start (needing to opened throttle to get it to fire up). Seeing as I have some time on my hands Iím doing a partial stripdown clean/check of my 2004 Vara.

When cleaning the connectors I found that this connector (see attached) was badly fried, it leads to the rectifier so could mean the the rectifier is on itís way out!

I donít recall smelling any burning.  Anyone else seen this type of damage or give an idea why this would happen?

I think it's quite common. The connector has just developed some resistance across the contacts and overheated.

It would be worth while checking the charging voltage to make sure the rectifier/regulator is OK.
I wonder what happen if I click on this - Ooops
