2008 Varadero 1000 throttle cables
« on: June 25, 2018, 04:56:30 PM »
The throttle closing cable on my 2008 XL1000VA broke; not sure how or when, I noticed it when lubing the cables.  Dealer and my parts manual show an "A" and "B" cable, but do not specify which one opens and which one closes the throttle.  Does anyone know with certainty which one to order to close the throttle?

Thanks.

I'm not sure but if one has gone the other probably won't be far behind so I would replace both as a caution. Solves the A & B carry on too.

I don't know what you lubed your cables with but I've read on here you should only use silicone lubes/oils as your normal wd40 and others leave a film behind. May be worth noting for future reference. Northumbryan is spot on, change both when you're at it.

For anyone reading, "A" is open (top cable) "B" is close, bottom cable. Once you take the time to take the tank and fairing off, then disconnected the cables from the housing, it's not too bad of a job. Cheap too, really. Take your time and just go for it. It's really not too hard. Have a little patience when connecting the cable guide in the housing and you'll get there.

HEDLEY,  I love your wording " Have a little patience" in my experience that means keep all children away because there may be some swearing done. :D

Haha. Yeah the kids need to be well away. Sound proofing the garage might help a small amount lol.
