I have been offered a 2003 model (I have always had sportsbikes) with an impeccable Honda service history.
The guy used it for work everyday, had it from new and always spent what was needed if it need anything, he is not very technically minded. All recalls done and no expense spared on it.
He has taken it to 70k on the clock when he moved closer to work and got the oppo to work from home 2 days a week so the bike got put in the garage and left.
This was 2 years ago. He asked me if i was interested due to my accident (broken leg, pins etc) as it was very comfy. I said yes , so he charged the battery and tried starting it, it turns but dont fire up.
Now i want to know if this is really just a new fuel, plug scenario as it was running with absolutely no isses before he garaged it, or will i have a big bag of worms on my hands. I dont really know much about the injection side of it but if Hondas are anything to go by the engines are bulletproof if looked after.

So after a few pointers/advice if folk have come across this before

Thanks

Ello, I'm not a huge expert but I'm going to say a 2003 model is the carb fed beasty, so after 2yrs it will definitely need fresh juice run through the fuel system and maybe clean the carb jets. New plugs might help, incase they have corroded slightly, but if the old girl has been properly looked after and she was running fine before the lay-up, there shouldn't be any huge issues. I've been told by honda in Peterborough, they've seen Deros with 100,000 miles on them, so 70k is only 'middle aged' ;)
Without sounding like a prat and accepting you are a seasoned biker, you have checked the handlebar kill switch is set to 'run' haven't you?  ;) ;)
You wouldn't be the first and I'm sure you won't be the last to get suckered with that one on an unfamiliar machine.

Its nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I live about 100 miles from him so it is him trying to start it so killswitch not issue. This is deffo the fuel injected model

2003 was the start of fi on the vara along with the 6 speed box.

Also I think it was the start of the new dash layout

Agree. If the bike was build in 2003, it will have fuel injection, no carbs (unless the bike is pre-2003 build and registered in 2003...!

Considering I pointed out in the original post it was injection I think we can safely say it is injection.
