Title: Honda's adapter plate for top box?
Post by: Lazy on 04/05/08 - 22:18:30
:wallbash: Hi. I have just bought a XL1000 V4, with a Honda top box already fitted. Could somebody tell me how to take off the adapter plate as it is loose and needs tightening. Could somebody also let me know what the rubber strap on the side is for and the two rubber rings under the plate are for.

I think you will find it is supposed to be like that. ???  I picked up a brand new one end of last year (06 model)  I also noticed the plate which the box fitted on was someone loose.  I asked about it and was told they are designed to be like that which prevents high speed weave when you are motoring as such

Thanks for your reply Trotts. I think I have read somewhere that the plate is loose to prevent high speed weave. But does anyone know what the purpose the rubber strap on the side and the two rubber rings under the plate serve.

Hi guys, my top box plate is  mounted solidly with no movement and has not induced any high speed weave, but with the honda panniers fitted the bike does weave slightly at around 80 to 90 but not enough to make you worry.
The rubber band thing with the two loops is for honda's own u lock, which is expensive, but well made.
I managed to find one that fitted, cant remember who's make it was but it works ok and is always to hand.
Hope that this helps,

Regards

Thanks for the help, funny. Yep I can see how a U lock would fit.
Cheers.
