Title: Rear brake light
Post by: Grievesy on 04/03/14 - 19:46:36
Hello all, new Vara 125 owner here, however noticed a slight problem, when I press my rear brake the light does not come on, however when I pull the front brake light it does work, being a complete newbie to bikes, any ideas on what could be wrong? I'm no mechanic but i'm assuming it's the same bulb for both brakes...

Muchos Gracias for any help :)

Separate switches for each brake. The front brake has a little micro switch which you will se/hear clicking in and out. The rear brake will have a small (usually black) plastic bodied switch with a metal wire/rod connection to the brake lever. It is adjustable by turning the plastic switch. Play and see.

Yes check the switch out first try shorting the wires see if that makes things work. If it does just replace the switch.

If not get a manual and chase the circuit there will either be a clear break somewhere or a bad connection.

Electrics are not fun but it's a small circuit so shouldn't take too long. But check the switch first.

Had the exact problem, it is the switch, all it needs is adjusting.

Behind the foot peg bracket, there's a little black rotational knob. You'll need to get in & rotate it to tighten the spring.

It's an infuriatingly fiddley job, but if you have small enough hands, you don't even need any tools.
