I have got a 2005 reg XL1000va and the right-hand silencer has rotted where it connects to the collector box. I have seen some on Ebay from different model years and was wondering if they are all the same, or has there been subtle changes to the design over time?

Good question. They all look the same but there are changes to the part numbers over the years which suggests something is different even though we can't see it. For example a right hand packing ring for a 2005 is part number 18392MK4000 but the same looking part for a 2011 is 18392MBH000. A complete exhaust also have different part numbers over the years so it would be best to check it will fit before buying.
