 >:(Just fitted a OE Honda Main stand to mine today. Easier chain lubing etc etc. Looks good, works well. But as always the spanner Gremlin, who waits in the shadows, ready to mock your pathetic attempts at DIY, was there again. This little imp was also kept company by the grazed knuckle fairy, who knows that your tools are Halfords specials and not the latest Snap-On.
The first thing the Gremlin did was give me some Honda instructions, I suspect they were switched with a set from an MFI wardrobe. 8 languages, alledgedly including English, but alas, not the English I speak.
What the instructions DONT tell you is that you need to drop the back brake pedal so you can easily access the mounting bolt nut (Unless you have some 22nd century space age socket set with thin walled, multi- bendy micro rachets!)
Also the instructions say that the extra bolts should both be fed through from the inside out. Rubbish! The nearside does (cos the sidestand stops you doing otherwise) but the offside needs to be pushed through from the outside, because the chamfer on the top of the coach bolt means its to big to go the other way. Also it states these bolts should be torgued to 39Nm. What a laugh! I could just about get a std spanner on the nearside, cos of the exhaust, side stand combo, never mind trying it with one of Kamasa's finest!
I'm not the best spanner wielder, but I do know my hammer from my feeler gauges. What should have been an half hour job turned into 2 hours!
Still, more rewarding than letting Honda do it for ?40!
If you like a challenge, can laugh at blood and skin on the tarmac, and were good with Meccano as a kid, get one of these and upgrade your V today. :'(
Dont get mad.....get even.

I am just in the throws of sorting out a centre stand - what type of costs are we talking as I have been quoted by David Silver spares but have not yet got Honda price from local dealer who is a bit of a rip off merchant. (had a bad experience trying to buy some Givi parts)

Thanks in advance

Rik

Last time I asked it was about ?115  >:(

?150 fitted from Dobles of Coulsden.  I'm sure it's a good investment if only I had the strength or technique to use it!

SW-Motech do one for ?119 02 model and ?129 03 model.
That's around ?80 plus postage.

;)Been away all week. From a Honda dealer ?139 plus vat. So the ?150 fitted deal mentioned by Rob D, would be a right billy bargain.
As for technique (and I dont know if its cos its an OE one) is just put your foot on the bar and up she goes as easy as you like. Wonder if the shape of the non genuine ones makes this more difficult?

The ?150 was at least a year ago so the price has probably increased.  As to technique, mine's a Honda stand - I guess it's just 50% technique and 50% fear of the bike falling over.  The service manager at my local dealer has no trouble and he's about 5 foot.

Thanks fellas
Just ordered stand from Wakefield Honda ?141.82 inclusive of VAT and thought I would push boat out while I was at it so ordered a NWS Hugger also. Well you have to do something after saving all that money on not insuring a sportsbike!.
