Who's got a scotty fitted and whats it like. I gather they do the job well, but do they make a mess?
Also anyone fitted a scotty to an injected bike, is it much bother?

I've got the touring scottoiler fitted to my 2001 bike.  Can't comment on ease of fitting because the dealer did it when I bought the bike.  Mine stops working frequently, I thought the pipe was kinked so I re-routed it but still get the problem.  Back wheel doesn't get as mucky as it does with normal chain lube and my original chain has lasted 24000 miles although it's fairly shot now.

Got one fitted from new with bike. Stops working periodically, in fact i am going  to change all the tubes tomorrow to a garden watering system - ?7 with fixings.

Old tubes got fried eventually. Touring reservoir never works for me.

Got the touring version fitted to my '03 model.
Bitch to get the vacuum take-off sorted with it being FI. Carb models are a piece of cake.
Scottoiler are still getting back to me with the correct fittings.
Haven't had it on that long, about 1,000 so can't comment on chain life.

Got mine fitted by the dealer when I bought the bike (02 carb model), but he cable-tied the delivery tube to the side of the swingarm, and it's somehow touched the exhaust during suspension compression; it's now melted closed. So I think it maybe oiled the chain for 100 miles?

Stil haven't got him to fix it yet (which he will) as I'm getting a hugger fitted at the same time, and hugger's not arrived yet.

I fitted a scottoiler and the original chain lasted 27000 trouble is there was only eight teeth left on front sprocket! It has since stopped working so have gone back to chain lube. I will get round to fixing it soon (probably) as I believe they are well worth it.

On the serious side, having spent a shed load on intercoms etc etc finally took the traditional route and bought Autocom...rider to pillion, phone and Mp3 player at 100mph all shit hot...save the grief and invest if 'comms' is yer bag...(and before you ask...by being contactable by phone then I can escape...no phone... no day off simple as that!)

I was converted to the Scottoiler a few years ago and once they are working properly they are superb and I would not go back to carrying bottles of EP90 for anything.

I have fitted a few kits and have found the easiest way to route the delivery tube is by feeding it through a suitably sized petrol pipe. This keeps things under control and negates the need to use any superglue. A problem I have had with the Touring reservoir is that water can get into the RMV at the rubber bung. I have solved this with a trimed plastic wine cork cable tied to the RMV holding the bung on tight.

The kit takes a bit of time and planning to fit and different solutions are needed for different bikes. I have seen some bad attempts at fitting by "proffessionals" and think this is probably due to time pressure in the shop. It is important to get the injector to the 6 o'clock position an the rear sprocket. I have tried the dual injector but found that it gave little advantage and was fiddly and delicate to fit. I now stick to the simple injector.

I'ts good to hear positive vibes about the Scottoiler.

I think I will go ahead and get one and heed the advice you have all given.

Good idea about running the tube through another stronger tube I'm sure this will stop any kinking.

I may need to talk with some of you with regard the vaccum feed for the fuel injection model.

One of my biggest problems with the ScottOiler is keeping the drip tube in place against the sprocket. I've got the main tube tie-wrapped to the swing-arm but it seems to move away from the sprocket. ny suggestions?

Red,

I've suffered with that too. I have the injector touching the rear sprocket side face with light pressure, that way the oil can run out along the sprocket onto the chain. I have tried positioning the injector end as specified by Scottoiler just off the sprocket face above the side of the chain and it tends to move away as you describe. To get it to rest on the sprocket you can either rotate the dispenser assembly in its mounting sleeve or heat the injector up with a gas lighter and hold it bent in towards the sprocket until it cools and takes on the desired shape. Mine is resting on the step on the sprocket without probs.. Once set up it should last many miles but I have had the injector fall off so always pack some spares for a trip. They can be easily made up from spare vacuum tubing.

Regards, M.

Re connection for the vacuum pipe on the 03 model..........www.scottoiler.com can e mail you shots of their test rig bikes with recommended attachment points if you send a request on their technical help contacts page. I have'nt tried it for the Varadero but they are normally very helpful and sent me about 6 close up pics. last time. Hope that's useful.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a Scottoiler bore!
