Bike has been running ok apart from being harder to start (needing to opened throttle to get it to fire up). Seeing as I have some time on my hands I'm doing a partial stripdown clean/check of my 2004 Vara.

When cleaning the connectors I found that this connector (see attached) was badly fried, it leads to the rectifier so could mean the the rectifier is on it's way out!

I don't recall smelling any burning.  Anyone else seen this type of damage or give an idea why this would happen?

I think it's quite common. The connector has just developed some resistance across the contacts and overheated.

It would be worth while checking the charging voltage to make sure the rectifier/regulator is OK.
I wonder what happen if I click on this - Ooops
