Wanting the moon on a stick relates to wanting something impossible, or seemingly impossible.

Does anyone know of a GPS which can be used as a navigator on the bike,

moved to the car,

be taken out and used as a hillwalking GPS, with OS maps

then transfered to may boat and be totally immersion proof with nautical chart data,

use SD cards,

be cheap,

able to find places with OS refences or Post codes

and be clumsy bloke proof.

If anyone will know it will be you knowlegable lot.

Try looking at the Garmin ETREX line, but have a good look first because they are relatively cheap and are good for your general off road use. Later models do come with some sort of mapping but not sure how much.

1. The number of good landings must equal the number of takeoffs for the day to be good.

2. Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing.

I'm not very knowledgeable about GPS, but (IMHO) if you find one that ticks all the boxes EXCEPT for use on the bike, don't buy it. I've heard that the vibrations  from a bike can knacker the unit....therefore it instantly un-ticks all the previous boxes 'cause it's fec**ed !

(ps: I expect to be vilified, nay, ridiculed, should my humble assertions prove to be contrary to the acccepted norm)

The ones to stay away from are the disk-drive ones. 2620 is such a beast - identical more or less to 2610 but even Garmin advise not to use on bike.

Wanting the moon on a stick relates to wanting something impossible, or seemingly impossible. Yep

Does anyone know of a GPS which can be used as a navigator on the bike Garmin Quest or Quest 2

moved to the car Garmin Quest or Quest 2

be taken out and used as a hillwalking GPS, with OS maps Garmin Quest or Quest 2

then transfered to may boat and be totally immersion proof with nautical chart data Garmin Quest or Quest 2

use SD cards - Garmin 2610 uses CF cards, Garmin Quest has fixed internal memory (243mb) Quest 2 has 2GB fixed internal memory

be cheap :2funny:

able to find places with OS refences or Post codes  Garmin Quest or Quest 2

and be clumsy bloke proof maybe

OS Topographical Maps would cost you ?150

Marine Cartography would cost you ?150

Quest is approx ?300 (Dixons sold a load off cheap recently but they sold out v.quickly)

Quest 2 is approx ?450

Garmin 2610 is ?520-530
