Just checked the tomtom link, not being a technical wiz kid am I right in saying I can turn my mobile phone into gps? If so has anybody tried it? It would save me time and fuel if it works.

Haven't met anyone with mobile gps, i use an ipaq with tom tom software which is superb. 3 of us on a recent trip to France had pocket PC based tom tom, and they were superb very easy to use. I ran mine with just the internal battery, the ipaq lasted 8 hours plus, very visible with backlight off. The others had power supply and worked really well. They were the Mio with built in GPS receiver, available for about ?299 sometimes less. cheers jeffers
Are you mad? I'm furious!

How about some of us regulars buy one between us and use it for our occasional jaunts abroad? I'm sure we can sort a booking schedule...

Say six of us - ?100 each gives access to kit for two months each.

Worth thinking about or a stupid idea?
Team DNF is now just waiting for another arse kicking...

I use "powerLoc" Destinator II which is similar to Tom-Tom.

I have the software (locked I think ) for both PC and HPC=Ipaq.

I also have an entire set of maps for UK, Europe and the USA which are common to both the PC and the HPC versions.

If anyone wants copies of the maps (which will only work with Destinator II) let me know.

If we'd only used paper maps on the run to Poland TPD would still be pushing his bike along the autobahn looking for petrol  >:(

Well, looking at the first review (in the news block) it doesn't seem to be very motorcycle friendly.
