Palmer Screen Adaptor or Aero-trim aerofoil

I hear good things about the palmer screen Adaptor but does anyone use/tried the aero trim aerofoil?

Ive decided to do something about the wind turbulence I experience over about 50mph. If I'm sitting comfortably upright the top of my standard screen is about chin/neck level so I get blasted about the head and shoulders and need to slouch which gets uncomfortable.

Here's the aero trim aerofoil

It looks as though the Aero-trim is attempting to emulate the MRA Vario screen. The MRA screen has a certain amount of success in eliminating buffeting mainly because it's larger than the std screen. The Palmer Products screen adapter mounts the screen away from the fairing and works by allowing air to pass behind the screen and cancelling out the negative pressure that causes the buffeting. If you end up buying a Palmer I'd recommend the mounting bar too. I've had mine for nearly two years with no sign of deterioration. Top product 5*****

So does the adaptor pretty much eliminate the buffeting?

With the MRA Vario touring screen - yes

I've got the Palmer with the standard screen. It lifts the buffeting over the head, but I am still getting it on my arms.
Need a wider screen.
Any suggestions?

At 66 I'm far too young for one of those!

If you want no wind buffeting, either go slower or get a car  :P

:) To be fair to the Vara, I've done several 500+ mile days on it, and even ridden in the worst winds, and once the Palmer riser solved the head buffeting issue I can honestly say I've never ridden such a comfy bike  8)

You'll never be 100% protected from the wind or the bike's slipstream, but the Varadero is a fantastic compromise between excessive amounts of fairing to keep the wind off, but act like sails in a cross wind, versus an almost naked bike with no weather protection to speak of, but unfazed by cross winds that pass right through it...

Just to add to this thread as It's hard to find conclusive info on screen mounts for the Varadero.

I had a V-Strom 650 for 5 years (60k miles) with a Madstad screen mount and found it nearly eliminated the buffeting with the stock screen. I could adjust the screen hight and angle to suit the conditions and where I was riding, like riding off road I could drop the screen and tilt it back for better view of the ground ahead of me, thrn put it up and fully forfard for motorway miles in any weather.

My Vara came with a large Givi tinted screen and allthough I no issues with buffeting I didnt like looking through the screen and at night or in bad weather I couldn't see potholes to avoid them.
I thought about getting a clear version but I still couldn't see through it when it was raining. (Cleaning the screen could help but the bike is my daily transport and I'm not going to clen the screen @6.30am every day)

I'd bought a Powerbronze screen that is a replica of the standard Honda screen and this solved the issues with large tinted screens for me but the buffeting at motorway speeds rattled my head around and after an hour would give me a headake and make me deaf (i can ride with ear phones but ear plugs make me feel dizzy)

The Madstad mounts have gone up in price since I'd got one for the V-Strom (?84 for black powder coat and quick adjusters) and for the Vara now it would be over ?100.
Where the Palmer mount is far cheaper.

I went for a Palmer mount in silver (powder coat tends to flake off stainless steel as it did on the Madstad) with the quick adjusters.
Fitting was easy and looks neat.

It's not as adjustable as the Madstad where you have full range of movements with the madstad and the Palmer has slots to 'lock' the screen in set possitions.
This is not necessarily a negative as the madstad had a tendancy to slip if you hadn't tightened the adjusters quite enough.
The screen can be adjusted to lower than the standard low height and as tall as the tall Givi screen (9cm higher) and be adjusted to three tilt angles.

Perfect position to reduce buffeting for me is a full height and fully forward tilt. I leave it in the middle position as at this time of the year as I'd like a little bit of wind in the face to keep me cool.
This is all with the stock size and shape screen. I can also now listen to my bluetooth headset radio clearly where all I could hear was wind noise.
When talking bike to bike at motorway speeds I had to duck behind the screen to heard what was being said. But now I can clearly understand what SWMBO says... Be that a good thing or bad thing?
I'm 6ft tall and the Palmer mount has solved the buffeting and wind noise issues for me.
I'll post up some pictures when I get chance.

Good info, as you say, they are expensive and I'm tight so I've still got the stock system but I did get a new helmet which has helped a lot. I'll probably get the palmer adapter before I next do any touring but that looks like it will be next year so still plenty of time to change my mind again.
