Thinking about the ride we want to next summer and just thought I would share a route i rode last summer, may be of interest to those like me planning trips now in the depths of winter!

Just after the trip I have did a post on my blog here [ http://www.wibble.net.nz/2013/10/our-european-bike-adventure.html] which has the GPS maps which may be of interest,  and links to some pics we took. the GPS maps are the bit I perceive people to be interested in.

Basically the ride was across France, to Grenoble, up Alpe d'Huez then on the "Route Napol?on" to the Rivera, then up to Monaco, down to St Tropez, across to Andorra, then down to Valencia, up to Barcelona and home again back across France.

15 Days and 3551.30 Miles  .. some of the most awesome roads I have ever ridden on !

Nice one.

Did the Maratime Alps a few years ago. Route Napol?on from grenoble to Gap is good but from Gap to Grasse it's awesome.

The only thing i would change if I did the "Route Napol?on" again was that we did  Grenoble to Alpe d'Huez, which was excellent and then from  Alpe d'Huez, we headed to Gap by the shortest route / avoid highways on the Garmin, which was also awesome .. really gnarly little back lanes ..

However it meant we got to Sisteron at about 18:00 where we had a great diner.. Sisteron is a lovely place, but we were committed to a hotel in Cannes so left there about 20:00 pushed on in the dark from there .. not that i don't like driving in the dark but it is of course a lot less scenic .. so an extra night in Sisteron would have been fab ..

For reasons that are too complicated to explain here 3 of us got delayed in Nice and ended up riding back into France over the Col De Bonnette at 1 o'clock in the morning, in the dark.

I was sh...ing myself on the way to the pass and had images of us riding over the edge at one of the hairpins. But when we got there it was a clear sky and a full moon and it was fantastic.

Whatever happened to Happychappy ?
