Dear all .
I'm planning to visit U.K at the end of June.So far i'm thinking from Dover to reach LONDON (staying 2 days) ,and from London to Edinburg(staying for 2 days).I would like to visit the famous LOCHNESS LAKE where Nesi used to live once upon a time (nesi is the name of the dragon i guess).Every suggestion or informations about the Highlands or generally what worths a visit in the UK is welcome!!

PS:I would also like to know about the passing from the FRENCH side(Calais) to the BRITISH side(Dover) or the reverse, should i book tickets from internet or as soon as i get there i can pay and cross to the other side...by train or by boat...what do you think???
Vignette in the UK must be purchased like in AUSTRIA ,or motorbikes are free to travel like in Germany tolls free??

Looking forward to hear from you, thanks in advance about your concern.... :) :)

Hi Ath,
In between London and Edinburgh there's alot to see,
if you have time and are passing the Lake District http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrynose_Pass / Yorkshire Dales http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yorkshire_Dales give me a shout and i'll give you the guided tour (Saturday's / Sunday's only)  could even take you for a beer to the Tan Hill Inn http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tan_Hill,_Yorkshire  http://www.tanhillinn.co.uk/.

Loch Ness:- i'm fairly sure that Nessie still lives there, not sure you shoudl be calling her a Dragon though, i will let the Scottish, Cross Dressing, Porridge Gobblers put you right on that one  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loch_Ness_Monster.

Dover Caais: Boat /Train yeah you can just turn up but the price will be higher than if you book in advance.
There is No Vignette for any vehicle entering the UK.

Hi Athanman

No Vignette in the UK. Apart from a few bridges and the M6 toll road all motorways are free.
You can book early online for ferries or the tunnel

www.eurotunnel.com

www.dfdsseaways.co.uk
www.poferries.com

As to choice regarding train or boat it depends where you want to enter and leave the UK
There is only one rail line. You can get a ferry from most ports in France through to Holland.
Enter by one route and leave by another. Newcastle to Amsterdam is an overnight route you could return by
to save miles on motorways.

The A82 along the side of Lough Ness from Glasgow takes you past the shores of Lough Lomond and through Glencoe. If time allows try the A87 From Invergarry to The Ilse of Sky.  You could spend a week up in the highlands and not see it all.

Hope this helps a little
