I've just finished a four day holiday around the west coast and islands with my brother. I have put a blog and some photos about it on my web site... May be it will give you some ideas...

I was up there the following week. Brilliant roads. Applecross made me giggle.

Depends where your riding from as to how much you want to cover in a day. Head for Portree on Isle of Skye, via Glasgow, West of Loch Lomond, Tarbet, Crianlarich, Tyndrum, Glencoe, Fort William, Invergarry A8 to Kyle of Lochalsh and over Skye Bridge to Portree.
A87 from Invergarry to Kyle is like roads onPeugeot advert. Stop at Eilean Donan Castle vistor centre at Dornie for a brew.
Enjoy

Re Tboys recommended routes for Scotland, they are all good roads but consider going to Skye via Fort William then along to Mallaig and hop on the half hour ferry ride across to Armadale on the southern tip of Skye, that way you can see the Black Cuillin mountains at their best as you head up to Portree (consider staying at a great B&B in Portree called The Quiraing (Viewfield Road, IV51 9ES tel01478 612870)for fantastic welcome, great food including Baileys Irish Cream in your porridge! and secure off road parking all at a great price. When on Skye make sure you ride around the top of the Island past the Old Man of Stor (A855) and come back down into Uig and visit the Talisker Whiskey distillery at Carbost. When leaving Skye take the Lochalsh Bridge and take the A87 down to Invergarry (stay at Forest Lodge,Invergarry,PH34 4EA tel01809 501219 three miles SW of Invergarry on the A82) then South via Spean Bridge through Fort William then down to South Ballacuilish and stay at the best B and B I've ever stayed at called Lyn-Leven PH49 4JP Tel 01855 811392 - you must have the evening meal which is a steal. From their keep on the A82 through Glencoe and on back to Crianlarich taking the A85 to Lochearnhead and stay at the Mansewood Country House FK19 8NS Tel 01567 830213 the owner is a bike nut with a Harley Road King in his garage. The route back down to the Forth Road Bridge is pretty straightforward via Callander and Stirling by-passing Edinburgh and down into England via the A68 which gives you great fast roads through Northumberland (watch out for the Borders Police who seam to have a Gatso every half mile though once over the border you,ll find non of them on the A68!)
Enjoy.....Nick
