Then...just don't go with Bennetts.  Quite Simple.  Try one of the smaller insurance companies; usual far more personal and I find - a better service.

Insurance renewal time came around again, prepared myself for the usual treadmill of questions & stupid quotes. Thought I would give ebikeinsurance and Roadsure a try.

Very impressed (and I loathe insurance companies) with ebikeinsurance...Both bikes - Honda Blackbird and Carbie Varadero, protected NCB, fully comprehensive, no mileage limits or electronic security required, 35 year old with full NCB....................?340.  Sorted it out Tuesday, documents arrived Wednesday.  O0

Spoke to a chap called Vince at Roadsure, very helpful and talkative (Blade and Dirt bike rider), tried his best but couldn't beat the ebikeinsurance quote.

Makes a change to get the insurance sorted without feeling I've been completely robbed.

Colin, if you'd given your proper age it probably would have been cheaper....it's gets cheaper the older you get. ;)

chaps,

Got a cautionary tale about ebikers.  My insurance company rightly pointed out that there is an "excess" issue.  When you go online for a quote, they give you a VOLANTARY EXCESS figure.  This is NOT the same as your excess.  You excess is still about 350-400 pounds, but you can pay an EXTRA excess to lower your premium.

Hence, when I came to renew my insurance yesterday, I actually stopped short of insuring with this mob because of it.  A extra word of caution; this company is based offshore - so you legally have very little comeback if something goes majorly tits up.

Max,? if people don't know the difference between compulsory and voluntary excess or fail to check when obtaining a quote, then there isn't much hope is there?? :idiot2:

As for the comment about it being an offshore company, this was discussed on another site I browse and I have copied the response received from the Managing Director

I contacted Michael Lee the Managing Director of Southern Rock Insurance Company Ltd who trade as ebikeinsurance and asked him to clear up one or two issues regarding claims etc.

Below is his very comprehensive and clear response.

=================================
It’s been very interesting reading the comments from the forum members regarding www.ebikeinsurance.co.uk. We’re very pleased that most of you have had a positive experience when you’ve visited our site. In the main, we seem to have saved you some cash!

It’s also understandable why a number of people have questioned how we can be so much cheaper than the competition, and why a number of the forum members have reservations about who we are. After all we are new and innovative!

We’re doing something very different from the competition so it’s my pleasure to explain more about our methods and how they benefit you.

Maybe we should clear up the Regulatory issues first. Dealing with Ebike in Gibraltar puts you at no disadvantage to any of the mainland UK based insurers. As reassurance of this I’ve attached a number of links that help prove that point.

The first link may be of interest as it lists many familiar insurers who are also regulated by the FSC in Gibraltar. Many are household names who’ve had offices in this UK dependant territory for many years.

We would also draw your attention to an excerpt from the FSC website “On the 11th June 1997, the Government of Gibraltar announced the UK Government's agreement that Gibraltar's supervisory regime for insurance matched standards of supervision in the UK.”

http://www.fsc.gi/fsclists/insulist.htm

As further reassurance there is a link below to the UK Financial Services Authority website listing authorised firms.

You can also search the site for details of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), of which we are also members.

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) is the UK's statutory fund of last resort for customers of authorised financial services firms. This means that FSCS can pay compensation if a firm is unable, or likely to be unable, to pay claims against it. FSCS is an independent body, set up under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (FSMA).

The link below demonstrates we are members of the Motor Insurance Bureau. Like every other insurer who underwrites motor business in the UK we must contribute to the fund available for victims of uninsured drivers.

We also chose to become members of the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS). Details can be found from the link below.

Now for the interesting bit……… how we can be so cheap.

There are a number of things we are doing different from the rest of the market. The most important difference is that we are direct. Most of the competition mentioned by members of this forum are actually brokers, not fellow insurers. We allow you to take the place of the broker by using our site yourselves and saving the commission that would otherwise have gone to the broker.

We also save money after you’ve bought our product because we allow you to maintain the policy yourselves. The site allows you to do most of the mid policy adjustments that you would previously have asked your broker to do. No doubt you would also have paid them for their time.

The down side is that you have to key that change in yourself, but you’ll probably have done that in half the time you’d normally be sitting in a broker’s telephone queue waiting to be charged for the privilege!

Another reason we save you money is that many of our free extras such as Legal Expenses, Breakdown Assistance, and EU cover would generally be marked up by a broker and charged to you at a rate far in excess of what they paid the insurer.

The reality is that in many cases we receive a similar premium to your existing insurer, the only difference is you get to keep the bit, you normally give to the broker!

Finally, a few comments about our service, particularly if you are unfortunate enough to have a claim. Those who have written stating ebike should be judged by those who’ve had a claim, are quite right. That’s the time when you really find out if you got value for money.

So what should you expect? All ebike claims are reported via UK mainland phone numbers to our specialists who are available in the UK to provide 24hr support.

Depending on the level of cover you purchased, you can expect your vehicle recovered from the incident or home address. The vehicle may then be taken to an approved garage for repairs or valuation if it is a total loss. Depending on the age of the vehicle you may be entitled to a brand new replacement bike, or if it is beyond economical repair you will receive the full market value.

If you are involved in a non-fault accident then we may also be able to arrange a replacement bike whilst yours is off the road. The legal expenses policy you receive free, will also provide assistance if you needed to claim for any injuries sustained in the incident.

I hope some of this information helps show our commitment to provide quality insurance cover to bikers via an insurance web site designed by bikers.

Maybe a little research before "extra words of caution" ?? :knuppel2:

A few days ago I had my renewal from Carol Nash. On the face of it not bad. I put another bike onto the policy in July and so was expecting a hike in the premium. It actually went up just over ?1. Historically I've stuck with Carol cos I can get the business cover I need under agreement as Class 1
Now, call me old fashioned, but if I renew a policy I would expect the policy terms to be the same as last year?
Not so. The devil is in the detail, check the small print.
My protected NCD was no longer protected. My cover for extras (box, panniers, rack, stand, grips) had been reduced from ?1000 to ?250. Cover for leathers lid etc down from ?1000 to ?250. NONE OF THIS WAS POINTED OUT. I had to troll through the paperwork to establish it.
Ebike came in at ?215 thats ?146 less with most of the cover I wanted. Down side is they will not cover clothing. But, in all a better policy at lot less cost, and a whopping ?436 cheaper than Roadsure

PS. Still hope I never need to make a claim  :)

I've been with EBike a couple of years now, and have found them to be very good.

Their prices are excellent, excesses are comparable to others, and any mid term changes of bike or parts you add to your bike are so easy.

Also, most mid term changes cost you nothing to do. Unlike MCE who once charged me ?108 to change my bike from a 1250 Bandit to a 650 one. Go figure that one ! Bet you would like to know wehat i told em down the phone ??
