Hi folks, peepz and modz,

I have a Varadero XL125 V2 from 2001, which I've had since about 2008, and she has been misbehaving since I left her outside for about a decade :-X . I have her running, rust removed, green fuel crystals and staining removed from carb(!) and she's purring like a Cheshire cat BUT... I have a snapped choke cable attachment nut, which has stopped my progress, dead.

YES, IT'S PLASTIC. WHY??

The trouble is, I've been trying for about two months now to find a suitable replacement online. Anything that fits would be grand!! Yet my search has been fruitless. I ordered one from China on eBay and when it arrived I found the thread diameter was too wide (12mm?). I think it was for an Africa Twin. Whenever I get excited and think I finally found one, it always ends badly. I've started messaging sellers now, asking if they have the 8mm version. None have replied as of yet, but it is currently Sunday evening.

I found an OEM choke valve kit on wemoto for the XL1000, but it probably wouldn't fit the 125 and is too expensive anyway. There are others, but none for Valerie!
Why can't I find this simple, easily-breakable part?? The choke cables don't come with them, and while I can find ones for other Keihin carbs (e.g. the PWK looks close and eBay is flooded with them), I can't find a single one for the Varadero 125's Keihin "VP" carb. Why?? I've tried many different search terms, but none seem to catch anything suitable. On eBay, there are mostly China-based duplicate businesses everywhere selling identical choke kits that don't fit my bike.

All the cheap carb choke valve kits I can find seem to be 12mm, like this one on AliExpress.. Mine has a 8mm diameter. Nothing on Amazon either. I feel like I'm missing something.

This is a drawing I made in desperation to send to sellers. It includes measurements for 1: The SE Valve Nut and 2: The Fuel Filter (which I'm also looking for).

(the 88mm fuel filter length should be 188 mm)

So in my last throes of exhausted desperation, I've turned to asking human beings (YOU) for help. O:-)
Please help me fix Valerie.
She'd to be very grateful.

Thanks  :D

hiya guys ive got and adore my lil varadero 125 carb, ive ran it from 4k miles when i bought it in september, to 14k and i absolutely love my bby, ive sorted and replaced with new everytime ive had a minor issue (appart from the headlight wiring cause she keeps popping bulbs but thats on the list). as much as i dont want to im really considering selling once ive done my A2 soon i realistically need something bigger, im regularly going from cumbria to cheshire to visit my gf so sitting at 60 for 3-4+ hours isnt the best i dunno. i commute on A roads so again 60 mph so im vary aware that its gonna be much more comfy on somehting bigger, im just not too sure cause i love my lil vara but im aware that for my personal usage buying something bigger will be benifitial overall and i cant aford to insure two bikes idk, soz for lil rant have a good day

General / Side rack Honda Varadero 125 2...
Last post by Lolper - 04/06/25 - 22:15:00
Hey guys,
So ehm, a few months ago I got a '03 Varadero. I'd like to go on holiday with it, so I need some storage. I would like to get some side boxes, but I can only find a rack for the '07-'15 edition. But the bolts kind of look the same. Does anyone know if I can just buy that and put it on my '03 version? In the image you can see the one I'd like to buy!

Thanks a lot!

Quote from: Leo on  14/05/25 - 23:26:44What do you think is the difference between EBC brake pads from ebay and EBC brake pads from any store?

The problem is being certain that they are EBC pads !

General / XL1000V only runs on one cylin...

Hi!
Last week I attached a loose bolt for the left crash bar, which meant taking off the cowls on the left side.
I also changed both relays for the turn signal.

This morning, it seems like it only runs on one cylinder - not much power, and a little bit of weird vibration. Are there anything I may have disconnected that is not easy to think of, or should I just check spark plug connections, and probably spark plugs themselves?

It is still slow to start the turn signal in coldish weather (13 degrees celcius) - I've tried cleaning the turn signal housing a bit, and changed both relays. What is my next step?

Battery is new, fresh, and 13.6 volts.

EDIT: 2001 Varadero, so carburetors.
