Neutral Issue... thoughts please?

Hello.  My first post.....

So, I have an issue getting the Vara (1000) into Neutral at the moment.
Before I head to the garage with it I wanted some opinion on what the issue might be.

First ride of the day, it starts in Neutral, goes through the gears fine.  When I come to stop however, then 80% of the time I can't get the damned thing into neutral.  Usually takes a hell of a lot of muscle to move the gear lever upwards from first gear.  So much pressure, that when it moves it goes straight up into second.  All the downward shifts are all fine, as are most of the upward shifts.  Just seems to be going upwards from neutral.

BUT.... if (when in first gear) I put the side stand down (which cuts the engine out), it is immediately back to normal and slips into Neutral beautifully.

Not being mechanical minded, I thought I'd get some opinions on what the issue might be before I approach the garage and get slapped with a hefty bill. :)

Any thoughts?

Many thanks!

Warped or badly adjusted clutch.

Have you checked free play and free movement of the clutch actuating rod?
