Rear suspension lowering kit??

Good afternoon all.

I did warn you all that I'm the Master of Dumb Questions - here's one for today.

I bought my 2008 XL1000V7 just before Christmas and it came with an Ohlins rear shock unit fitted. It's also got Ohlins fork springs as well.

The MOT chap at the local garage seems to think it's had a rear lowering kit fitted so here's my questions;

1  How do I tell if it has been lowered, does anyone have the hole centre measurements of the triangular side plates on the standard rear shock linkage?

2  Other than the obvious advantage for "vertically challenged" riders, is there any other advantage in lowering the rear, the front forks are where they should be with the tubes in line with the top of the top yoke. Being 6'2" I don't think I need a lowering kit.

3  How does lowering affect the handling/stability of the bike?

Thanks all.

Neil.
