Hi.
Following on from the fueling saga..  the thermostat seems to be not closing fully.
Tested in a pot of hot water and seems to open and close ok, but in the bike, temperature only gets to a quarter.. it was always quick to get to operating temperature (straight up)..
Out of the bike, it looks to be sticking open by a 1 mm or so, which I would have thought wouldn't be too much of an issue, perhaps it's opening too quickly now..

Running in the workshop, it will get up to temp and the fan will cut in and out a little just above the normal temp just like it used to do..

Anyway.. seems it's a genuine Honda only part.. at like £70..   seems a bit steep that.. any alternatives?? Or just suck it up??

Whatever else you do make absolutely certain that the cooling circuit is fully bled when you put it back together. Take the cap off the expansion tank and run the engine up to temperature then rev it hard.

The only time I've known a Vara engine to fail was due to an air lock in the rear cylinder.

Thankyou..
I did that as a matter of course.. also laid the bike on the left to get the rad cap as high as poss..

Anyone know if the vtr stat housing and t stat are actually the same? Seems there are no t stat available at mo and plenty of used vtr housings on eBay..
Dero tstat part number is 19300-mbt-003
Vtr tstat part number is 19300-mbb-003
Both 1999 bikes
Cheers

If the part No's are the same then the parts are the same.

Mmm.
I remember many years ago, Honda were quite poor for "common parts" interchangeability,  same part was a different part number if it was fitted to a different bike.
.
The vtr housing looks identical, scooped a used one off eBay for not a lot, so I shall see..

Housing and sensors are same part numbers, tstat has 1 letter different.. the XL stat seems to fit some 400 odd bikes, big bikes too "CTX1300" etc
VTR stat fits 90odd bikes Inc cbr600's etc

Toomanytoys

Housing appears to be identical
Tstat is a 75 degC where the Dero has an 82 degC..
